Participation in NRA Women Program Increases by 26% in 2012

February 6, 2013

A 26% increase of women participants in the NRA's Women On Target program in 2012. Good for the women who are exercising their 2nd Amendment rights and doing so responsibly, by seeking education and training. These courses are for women and (mostly) by women.

I recalled seeing a flyer at the local Cabela's a few years ago about a women's firearms course and inquired about it last night while I was there. My inquiry was for my daughter and her friend. It turns out that it's this Women On Target course. A note of caution to my readers. The local courses I was able to find were not listed on the website linked in this article, so there's a disconnect between the NRA's webpage and the actual course offerings. Even if you don't find any courses in your area on that website, they may be available. If you're interested in attending, check the website first but then check with your local outdoor outfitters, shooting ranges, gun clubs or gun stores.

I attended a concealed carry permit course last night (at Cabela's). I estimate there were approx. 35 people in attendance. Every seat at every table was filled and they had to bring in more chairs and pass out clipboards for the rest. I counted 9 women in the class (~25%) and most of them were not attending with male partners.
