FBI data for 2011 indicates there were 323 murders with rifles of ANY type. As this ad shows, that's less murders than in each of the categories of blunt objects; hands or feet; or knives. Handguns isn't included here. That number would be in the thousands. (Not the 11, 12 or 13,000 number you hear from the likes of Piers Morgan. The real number would be less than 9k.)
Semi-automatic rifles, branded "assault weapons", are a subset of rifles. Another source claims an average of 48 murders per year since 2004 were done with so-called AWs.
How many millions of dollars have been spent nationwide as a result of this manic "assault weapons ban" activity, targeting the tools used in ~48 deaths per year and not targeting the people who are using them for that purpose? Not thousands of murders. Not even hundreds. Thank you Mr. President, Senator Feinstein, other prominent politicians, and other gun control advocates. It's not like that money could have been spent on anything more worthwhile.
