Arm Yourself to Stay Safe

June 2, 2013

In January 2013 while on a CNN show, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke stirred controversy when he recommended that people arm themselves in order to protect themselves. You can imagine how the gun control advocates, including those on CNN, reacted to this - claiming it would lead to fear, panic and result in danger, not safety. At least one of his peers, Brown County Sheriff John Gossage, and many other gun rights advocates agreed with his advice. The controversy over these remarks made headlines for a few days.

Fast forward to May 2013 and what did we see in southern Oregon? A woman's ex-partner was trying to break into her home. She called the sheriff and was told that due to budget cuts there was no one to send to aid her. The male succeeded in breaking into her home and sexually assaulted her.

These things really do happen. It's not just "what if" or fantasy when a law enforcement officer or gun rights advocate suggests 'keeping and bearing arms' for your personal protection. When people like Mayor Michael Bloomberg tell you that the police are sufficient to protect you, they're lying to you. There's no other explanation for it. Sometimes they may get there in time. And then there are the times when they show up to take a report or take pictures. Each adult is the first person responsible for their own personal safety. How you choose to ensure it is a choice. Doing it with the use of a firearm is a RIGHT, our 2nd Amendment right, in this country.
