OMG! Read this short Washington Times article to see what Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy thinks of our 2nd Amendment and its law abiding supporters. The term "extremist" is used to describe people on both sides of the gun control / 2nd Amendment arguments. It could be aptly applied here!
'firearm owners who lobby their representatives, or who donate money to political campaigns, for pro-Second Amendment issues are guilty of corruption and of endangering public safety'
'the Second Amendment itself was a threat to the nation’s security'
'judges and lawmakers should focus more on public opinion polls when considering constitutional matters'
These are not shown as direct quotes from McCarthy so I'm a little suspicious of them. Perhaps they're paraphrased. If they're true, McCarthy should be removed from office for failure to fulfill his oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States" by making such crass statements. He's certainly not supporting the 2nd Amendment and I think a very fair argument can be made that he's not supporting others' execution of their 1st Amendment rights when he exercises his to vilify them for supporting the 2nd Amendment or making political contributions in its defense.
What do you think?
