A significant victory has been won in favor of our 2nd Amendment rights and, in particular, the right for law abiding citizens to legally carry firearms outside their homes in Illinois. Illinois is home of Chicago, of course, which carries dual crowns for having the most stringent gun control laws in our country and is its murder capitol.

Perhaps now the balance of power in Chicago will shift somewhat in favor of the innocent and away from criminals, not because of any ridiculous so-called "assault weapons" ban but because people are legally allowed to defend themselves. That is, unless the Chicago Police Superintendent starts shooting citizens and asking questions later, as indicated in his controversial statements.

Chicago has already been highlighted for its failure to enforce and prosecute gun criminals with the laws already in place. It reportedly ranks 89th among 90 jurisdictions for doing so. Considering this police chief's statements, don't be surprised if you start seeing concealed carry permit holders being arrested and prosecuted for the slightest of infractions as they attempt to exercise their constitutional rights and protect themselves.
To those who are afraid that more firearms being carried will result in "wild west" gun battles in the streets, I offer the following:
1) Most states already allow open or concealed carry of firearms. Where has this "wild west" scenario occurred? Yes, I'm aware that the absence of something doesn't mean it can't or won't happen. But what really is happening now is that a category of firearms is under attack for a very small number of incidents in which they were used while gun control advocates ignore the literally millions of uses of those same purposes for legal purposes.
2) In many, and I believe most, personal defense situations, the mere presence of a firearm in the hands of the would-be victim is enough to prevent the crime. At least some criminals do value their lives and don't want to be shot or killed, or injured and caught resulting in prison sentences. Many of these incidents go unreported and mainstream media doesn't cover them at all. The 'crime that was almost committed' isn't sexy enough for their ratings or your information feed. And it doesn't fit with their gun control agenda.
3) Lives have already been saved by licensed concealed carry citizens, including an attempted mass murder Clackamas Town Hall shopping mall near Portland, Oregon just days after Sandy Hook. The media covered the mall shooting nationally in the wake of the Sandy Hook frenzy. You have to look much harder to find the stories that include that "inconvenient truth" that the shooter took his own life AFTER being confronted with an armed citizen even though the citizen didn't fire any shots. No "wild west." No bystander shot by the citizen. Lives additional loss of life after the initial shots. Our President has been widely covered by the media saying "If there's even one life that can be saved, then we've got an obligation to try." Lives are being saved every week in our country that you never read about. Want to save even more? Feel obligated to put more 'good guys with a gun' in places where 'bad buys with guns' prey on their victims. That's nearly everywhere.
4) The "wild west" wasn't even the wild west. Don't get caught up in Hollywood's version of our history or in the scare tactics of those with a gun control agenda.
