New Orleans Mothers Day Parade Shooting

May 13, 2013

Sarcasm Alert:

The suspect(s) in the New Orleans Mothers Day Parade shooting has not yet been apprehended and therefore all the facts are not known. Early reports said there were 3 suspects who may have all been shooters. This article only mentions and shows 1 suspect. I don't know if that means the story or understanding has changed or if they're only focusing here on the one they've identified.

There's an embedded 1:26 'video' that's really a series of still shots in time-lapse photography showing a suspect drawing his gun, approaching the crowd, firing and departing the area.

I am wondering what the gun control zealots' response to this will be. Choose from one or more of the following:

a) Although 19 people were injured, no one died so it's not part of the discussion. (This is how some of them argue when the mass knifing incidents are brought up even though it's known that some of those criminals don't intend to kill - they intend to maim.)
b) It wasn't an AR-15 or other so-called "assault weapon" so we don't care. Assault weapons are evil and need to be banned (even though they're used in less than 2% of crime).
c) It was a semi-automatic handgun so we should ban all handguns or all semi-automatic handguns.
d) We should repeal the 2nd Amendment.
e) This is another incident showing we should ban magazines with more than (fill in the blank) rounds of ammunition. If he had fewer bullets he couldn't have injured so many. (Note the pics in the 'video'. He was within just a few feet of the crowd when he started firing and EVERYONE ran away. Not a single person stood their ground or tackled him - just a few feet away. Once they were on the run he had all the time in the world to change magazines - a movement that, with practice, takes less than a second to perform. He could also have brought more than one gun.)
f) Just one clear-headed, armed person in that crowd could have reduced the number of injuries and brought the criminal to justice or killed him while in the process of committing this awful crime.
g) Mayor Bloomberg is right, the police are 100% capable of protecting us.
h) The NRA is responsible for this.
i) Anyone who promotes firearms ownership or owns a gun also promotes gun violence.
j) The gun is to blame. The person behind the gun is just another victim who needs patience, understanding, counseling and a light sentence.
k) La, la, la... we wish this didn't happen in a Democratic controlled city... la, la, la.
l) If you disagree with me then I CAN'T HEAR YOU or you don't exist.
m) This proves we need more firearms purchase background checks (even if this gun was purchased legally with a background check or obtained through illegal means - like has occurred in the memorable, notorious mass shootings).
n) We need to raise the cost of firearms and ammunition through taxes and fees so that only the rich can afford to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.

Still no known motivation but at least an arrest has been made.
