Here’s Colorado gun control law making in a nutshell - "I don't know. But laws must be made."
After testifying in favor of allowing concealed carry license holders to carry firearms on college campuses and being lectured by Colorado state Senator Evie Hudak, rape survivor Amanda Collins has been interviewed at least a couple times by Fox News programs.
Amanda was raped on a college campus within sight, within ~100 feet of the campus police department. Her attacker had a gun. She held a concealed carry license but did not have her firearm with her because she was on campus, where it was banned. She was also a 2nd-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do.
On this morning’s program with Megyn Kelly, Amanda said that after the Senate hearing, Hudak apologized to her. The apology did not seem to be genuine or related to what she said, just in the timing of her (agenda-serving) lecture AND after receiving an immediate and overwhelming amount of negative feedback. The following was part of their hallway conversation. This clip shows part of the interview but unfortunately cuts off before the piece I’m including. I haven’t found a video clip of the whole interview.
2:09 excerpt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbe3TP1QDxU
Amanda: ‘How does (making?) me defenseless protect you against violent crime?’
<10-second pause>
Hudak: ‘I don’t know. But laws have to be made.’
There you have it – Colorado, democratic law making and logic in a nutshell. “Laws have to be made.” They don’t have to be sensible, common sense or reasonable. They don’t have to be logical. They don’t have to be proven. They CAN require that women and people in general be victims of the very violent crime they claim to be trying to reduce.
Here’s an article with an embedded 4:24 video with an excerpt of Hudak’s statement and an interview with Amanda. http://girlsjustwannahaveguns.com/2013/03/video-rape-survivor-puts-gun-control-politicians-in-their-place-you-werent-there/
Another article with the same interview as above:http://foxnewsinsider.com/2013/03/06/watch-rape-victim-amanda-collins-speaks-out-after-colorado-lawmaker-says-a-gun-would-not-have-stopped-her-attacker/
This article says Amanda was raped “less than 300 yards from a campus police office.” Two other sources have said 100 feet. There’s a big difference between 100 feet and 300 yards (900 feet). Since she refers to the parked police cruisers that were in sight and the other sources include her audio statements, I think this article misrepresented the distance.http://kdvr.com/2013/03/05/colo-lawmaker-tells-rape-victim-gun-wouldnt-have-prevented-attack/ According to the article, “Hudak continued to say that statistics produced by the Colorado Coalition Against Gun Violence show that for every one woman who used a handgun to kill someone in self-defense, 83 were murdered by their attackers.” Another great example of an agenda-serving statement and supposed fact. Among other problems with it, use of the “kill” term and scenario completely ignores the literally countless times a defender doesn’t kill. Sometimes an attacker is wounded. Sometimes they’re shot at and missed. Many times a firearm is brandished and the attack then never occurs. And of course, there’s the obvious problem – that they are trying to sit in judgment, denying others the choice and opportunity to defend themselves by their chosen method and with their chosen tools.
Here’s 14:45 interview with Amanda from last month, before her testimony in Colorado:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t5BTl6m7Kk In it, she says that Piers Morgan refused the opportunity to interview her, a victim of violent crime that involved a gun who is NOT in favor of gun control.
