Colt’s Manufacturing Company LLC, a maker of many firearms including the very popular (with gun owners) or infamous (with gun control advocates) AR-15 rifle, is considering whether to leave its 175-year home state of Connecticut. They claim that in this gun control frenzied environment the company doesn’t feel welcome there any longer. Personally, I hope they take their state tax revenue and jobs and move to a more welcoming and respectful state. They have plenty to choose from. I empathize with the people who may lose their jobs, of course, but feel nothing for the additional burden this would put on the state government – in lost revenue, a slower economy, and increased expenses in the form of unemployment payments.

Magpul, a maker of ammunition magazines, many of which hold more than Colorado’s new 15-round limit, is leading by example and has announced it will fulfill its promise and leave the Rocky Mountain State because of the passage of new state gun control laws that make many of their products illegal to own by Colorado citizens. I hope Colt follows suit. And I think I’ve read other companies in the arms industries have also considered relocating. There are a handful of states that are actively lobbying to host these companies.

There is another trend among arms industries companies – that of refusing to do business with governments that restrict the rights of its citizens to purchase the same firearms and accessories allowed for government use. Neither Colt nor Magpul is on that list - at least not yet. See this blog post on the topic:
