Florida State Senator Audrey Gibson Proposes Mandatory "Anger Management" Training for All Firearms and Ammunition Purchases

March 5, 2013

OMG! Will the senseless attacks on law abiding firearms owners never end? To what low depths can they possibly sink? Mandated anger management training for firearms purchases?

Maybe I'll sign up for that after we have mandated anger management training before citizens are allowed to exercise their 1st Amendment rights to free speech. You're familiar with the 1st Amendment, right? It's the one in our Bill of Rights that appears just prior to our 2nd Amendment right to "keep and bear arms". Isn't free speech the cause of FAR more anger than firearms? Oh, before I ever agree to anger management training for firearms ownership, let's also throw in anger management and hate management for all those who are trying to demonize firearms and their owners. Let's start that list with President Obama, Vice President Biden, Senator Feinstein, Governor Cuomo, Mayors Bloomberg and Emanuel, Piers Morgan, and now Florida State Senator Audrey Gibson. They won't be lonely though. The list of their 'classmates' will be a LONG one.

I would not be at all surprised if, in the awful and unlikely event something like this would ever pass into law, firearms owners and potential buyers were then banned from possessing firearms because they had been required by the state to enroll in anger management programs. After all, isn't "anger" a component to domestic violence?

Baited by the last paragraph of the article, I would like to politely ask, please, Senator Gibson, remove yourself from power or from the population in general. You're clearly not objective. You're abusing your power to try and demonize law abiding citizens. And your speech and intended bill are borderline hate speech.

Oh, look, "anger management" training shouldn't just be required for firearms purchases, it should also be required for all ammunition purchases.
  • “This is not about guns," Gibson said. "This is about ammunition and not only for the safety of the general community, but also for the safety of law enforcement.”
Gibson said she’s concerned with citizens stockpiling ammunition, potentially creating dangerous situations should those individuals ever come in contact with law enforcement agencies or criminals.
“It’s about getting people to think, really, about how much ammunition they need,” Gibson said. “It’s a step, I think, in a safer direction. It’s about getting people to think before they buy.”

This woman is an idiot. She has no idea that shooting ~1000 rounds of ammunition in a single outing to a range is nothing for some people. She has no understanding that if a person is intent on getting a gun or ammo in order to commit a crime, they will not be deterred by her ridiculous proposals. She has no understanding that a 2-hour class a person took up to 10 YEARS ago, especially one they were forced to take and had no interest in attending is NOT going to alter their behavior.

Gibson uses road rage as her example of how people are less patient today than in the past. Where's this idiot's proposed legislation requiring anger management training in order to obtain a driver's license?
