Piers Morgan Interviews Rorke Denver, Former US Navy SEAL and Author of "Damn Few"

March 9, 2013

Here's a recent Piers Morgan interview that includes more gun control debate in which Piers is able to control his temper and treat his guest with courtesy and respect. He really can do it when he puts his mind to it. Maybe we should ensure he never possesses a firearm since he so easily and often demonstrates his anger.

The 8:19 interview is with Rorke Denver, a former US Navy SEAL and author of the book, Damn Few.

Piers uses several of his canned arguments but Rorke doesn't play his game the way Piers seems to like in his guests.

"I sort of agree with Joe Biden...you can pretty well defend yourself...with a shotgun"(Really? Two shots and a long reload? Large, heavy ammunition? A shot pattern more likely to jeopardize bystanders or non-threats. Multiple attackers? Gonna carry that bad boy with you in your car and on your person? How do shotguns fit within the concealed carry laws? "Here, hold my shotgun while I get the search my purse for correct change.")

"You don't need to have these AR-15 assault rifles..." (The 2nd Amendment is NOT "need" based. And AR-15s never have been and never will be "assault rifles".)

"I couldn't believe the power." (What "power" is that, Piers? The relatively SMALL caliber among rifle calibers? The fact that they're banned for hunting large game in some states because they're NOT powerful enough? The rate of fire which is consistent with all semi-automatic firearms, both rifles and pistols, a technology that has been in common use for more than 100 years?)

"I don't understand why people need them." (The 2nd Amendment is not "needs" based. And you never will understand that. It's quite clear from your ongoing rant.)

When talking about other countries' gun crime, Piers says, "The difference is they don't have the guns. They can't get access to them. Criminals in places like Britain can't get their hands on guns. And that is why the gun crime rate is so low...I just don't get and I'm not hearing a coherent argument why they should be so easily available to the likes of Adam Lanza and the killer at Aurora to just walk into Wal-Mart and take one off the wall." (It's not that Piers isn't "hearing" any coherent arguments. It's that he's not "listening" to them and he fundamentally disagrees with them and refuses to consider them. So much for "common sense," "reason" and "journalism". Here is just one set of examples. Author John Lott of More Guns, Less Crime has explained "Yes, the gun murder rate is relatively low in England and Wales, but it was already low before the ban, and the stats do not show a decrease in murders committed with guns (nor overall murders) since the ban was instituted, as Morgan implies." (http://www.theendrun.com/larry-pratt-british-gun-crime-stats-a-sham) The article goes on to explain that the

"March 22, 2001 article by Dave Kopel, Dr. Paul Gallant and Dr. Joanne Eisen, entitled “Britain: From Bad to Worse” (cache).

In this article, the authors explained that “the violent crime rate has risen dramatically and steadily since gun bans have been instituted,” and that Britain had accordingly lost its reputation as an “unusually safe and crime-free nation.” [In fact, Britain was determined to be the most violent of European countries.]

To the great consternation of British authorities concerned about tourism revenue, a June CBS News report proclaimed Great Britain “one of the most violent urban societies in the Western world.” Declared Dan Rather: “This summer, thousands of Americans will travel to Britain expecting a civilized island free from crime and ugliness … [but now] the U.K. has a crime problem … worse than ours.”

They then begin to explain that this increase in violent crime — “a trend seen wherever strict gun control laws have been implemented” — is something that British officials have tried to keep “under wraps” by manipulating the statistics:"

The article goes on in detail about SEVERAL reports over years of British crime stats being artificially deflated. It's shocking how much is not being reported. It's quite a fascinating read. Piers won't let this "inconvenient truth" into his show though. He typically shouts down his guests when they tread there.
