Let’s hope the gun control craze never gets as far as door-to-door firearms confiscation (again).
That kind of confiscation DID occur in post-Katrina New Orleans. And it DID occur in California earlier this month when a man was forced to surrender his firearms because his wife had sought treatment for depression several months ago. And it HAS been proposed by 4 states in 2013.
This article says only 1 in 5 firearms owners would allow it. The reality is that a higher percentage would because at the time of confiscation, they’d be essentially alone and unprepared facing a team of armed, equipped, prepared and intimidating agents. Because most firearms owners are law abiding, they’d feel heavily pressured and intimidated to comply with what they were being presented with by representatives of “the law”. Most would hope to have them returned, putting too much faith in a system that is designed (by gun control advocating law makers) against you by making it difficult, tedious, lengthy and expensive to do so – to fight for your constitutionally provided 2nd Amendment rights. As a friend of mine recently acknowledged to me, most people will recognize they have “too much to lose” to not comply in that moment.
This is why firearms registration is dangerous, wrong and illegal at the federal level. The threat still exists at the state level, however, where the spectrum of registration is from none required to required for all firearms.
