Some of you have asked how to get more involved in the effort to defend our 2nd Amendment rights. My advice has been to write our politicians, federal and state, and let them know what you will or will not support. Conveniently, the NRA published some advice back in January that I was made aware of today.

To this list, I would add:
0) I'll reemphasize the NRA's advice to get educated. They provide a link to some information on this website but there are many additional sources. What's plain is that much, perhaps most, of the information you get from major media outlets is misleading and probably intentionally so. (11-13,000 murders a year? No. Up to 40% of all gun sales don't have a background check? No. Lots more of their rhetoric and 'facts'. No. At macro levels some of these numbers survive a first challenge but then fall apart when you examine them deeper. Firearms in circulation has been on a steady rise for decades while crime has been on the decline for decades. Yes.)
1) Join the NRA.
2) Join the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF).
3) Follow both organizations on Facebook & Twitter.
4) Don't be afraid to talk with family, friends or colleagues about the issues.
5) Be RESPECTFUL of others and their opinions. Too many outspoken people on both sides of the issues lose credibility and hurt their cause when they stereotype or outright insult the other side, adding nothing to a 'reasonable debate'.
Note: The NRA and SAF have opposing strategies in defending our 2nd Amendment rights. They sometimes cooperate but do not see eye to eye on all issues or their approaches to them.
